Volunteer Background Check

Patton Background Check Policy

If a parent will be with a student out of sight of an AISD employee, they must complete a background check. Parents must re-register with Austin Partners every year.   A new background check will be automatically completed every 3 years.  For more information, see the Frequently Asked Questions section below.

STEPS for Patton Background Check

1.) Go to the Austin Partners in Education - Patton Elementary Page here.
2.) Choose your volunteer capacity*:

  • Field Trip Chaperone
  • Field Trip Driver
  • Classroom Helper
  • VIP Volunteer
  • Tutoring

3.) Enter your e-mail address (If you completed a background check last year, you are finished.)
4.) Answer all questions.
5.) Come to the Patton office and have your Driver's License scanned into our Raptor System.  It may take up to 3 to 5 days to be cleared from your background check - please plan accordingly.  Please follow these steps every year you volunteer.  Background checks will automatically be done every 3rd year.

To make this process easier, here are some answers to frequently asked questions:

WHO NEEDS A BACKGROUND CHECK?
Any Patton volunteer who will be UNSUPERVISED by an AISD employee and working with the children on campus, as well as parent volunteers who drive, or chaperone on field trips.

WHERE CAN I REGISTER TO VOLUNTEER?
You can register by clicking the on the APIE Patton link above or on the APIE website by going to www.austinpartners.org and clicking on the RED volunteer button. In the Volunteer Center, scroll down "Search by School" and choose Patton. You can search volunteer opportunities by specific school or program.

WHAT IF I CANNOT FIND THE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY I AM LOOKING FOR?
Please contact your school volunteer coordinator Tasha Fortenberry at 414-1405 or APIE. Volunteers should register for all opportunities in which they will be working. Sometimes an opportunity does not appear because that school volunteer coordinator has not yet been made aware of the need. Your communication with the school volunteer coordinator and APIE will make posting additional opportunities quick and efficient for all volunteers.

DO I HAVE TO REGISTER TO VOLUNTEER EVERY YEAR?
Yes, please register every year. Volunteer rosters are closed out at the end of every year and if you do not register every year, you will not show up on that year's list of approved volunteers. By registering each year, APIE will automatically generate a new background check after 3 years. APIE tracks volunteers' years of service so schools can demonstrate community involvement and provide service recognition for their volunteers.

DOES ONE REGISTRATION CLEAR ME TO VOLUNTEER FOR ANYTHING?
Please register for each volunteer opportunity each year. The available volunteer positions are listed above. Volunteer opportunities have different levels of background checks and different lists of who is approved. If you wish to participate in additional volunteer opportunities during the school year, please return to the Volunteer Center at www.austinpartners.org/volunteer and register for additional opportunities.

ONCE I AM APPROVED, WHAT IS NEXT?
Once your background check has been approved, your school contact will call you to come in to have your identification verified and begin volunteering. You need to show your picture ID to the Volunteer Coordinator at the school so they can match your information with the list APIE has provided them. Once you are verified, you are ready to volunteer. You may need to provide verification each year. Please be patient as this process is to ensure the safety of our children.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME APPROVED?
It can take up to 3 to 5 business days for your background check to process. It could be a little longer during the beginning of the school year due to high demand.
