Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Learning and Development with a specialization in English

I did my student teaching  and was the permanent substitute at Patton before I was hired on to teach 5th grade. I have been teaching 5th grade since 1998.

I bring a lot of energy to my class. If I can't get excited about my subject, why should my students?

There are a number of things I try to accomplish for my students:

  1. A positive atmosphere. Students are called upon to discuss questions, but mistakes are treated as opportunities to learn.
  2. Fair playing field. I go to some lengths (individualizing assignments as necessary) to ensure that all students can be successful.
  3. Access to a caring individual.  I am always available to help my students.
  4. Empowerment. I believe that anyone can do well in school if they are willing to spend the time at it. Some students pick  up concepts quickly, some need to spend more time.
  5. Respect.
  6. A place to practice social interactions. Students practice being responsible, honest, and tolerant of others.

My students work hard and earn their grades. They learn to take responsibility for their actions and their work. I am preparing them not only for middle school, but for life.
