The 3rd grade GT enrichment students, The Social Superstars, have been working on a social responsibility project to give back to their Patton community.  Through the project they learned the concept of being a socially responsible citizen and how their actions affect everyone/everything around them.  They are developing a native plant garden on campus with supplies donated by Home Depot, Lowes and Natural Gardener. And they did a trash clean-up near the portables collecting over 25 bags of garbage.

To share their understanding of being a socially responsible person with everyone at Patton, they have developed the “Hand to Heart Project”.  The Social Superstars visited each classroom to educate Patton students on the meaning of social responsibility and give examples of how to be a socially responsible citizen.

Throughout the month of February, students and teachers are filling out white paper hearts when they “catch” someone being socially responsible or doing acts of kindness.

The hearts are collected and tallied each week.  Students and staff are recognized for their great acts of kindness at assembly each Friday.  And the hearts are displayed on the bulletin board in the main hall.  So far we have over 350 amazing acts of kindness posted in the hall.  At the end of February, the class with the most hearts will win a pizza party!

Be on the lookout for banners around the school that were developed by the Social Superstars and generously donated by Oak Hill Printing and Life Austin Church to spread acts of kindness.  Their slogan is "Working Together to Make Things Better!"

Please help support this wonderful project by encouraging and recognizing your students who do acts of kindness and are socially responsible.  Each person has a huge impact on those around them.  Let’s plant positive seeds among the Patton community.  Spread the word and pass it on!
